Tell me more on m40 engines

I've got an I.s and I had a 316 lux, rattly old thing it was never thought much about the engine but since that time I've read quite a bit about them and there's even some turbo ones I hear can this engine be tuned up and what sort of power can you get

Hi Guys
New memeber from NZ. . I am lookin at gettin a 318i M40 as a run around. . But I would like a little more power
My questions regarding the M40 are:
1 Will the Getrag 260 bolt up? (What gearbox do you recomend?)
2 How do these engines react to a small turbo? Would like to install turbo on stock engine & preferably with the head left on. .
3 Also how hard is it to convert the small case Diff to medium 3.64 LSD? ( what diff would you recomend ?)
