Do e36 318 DIESEL turbo manifold's fit in the e30 m42

Hi
I, like many others, want to make the most of m42 forged internals and turbo it. There are loads of aftermarket e36 turbo manifolds available, but I can't find any e30 ones. So will an OE 318 turbo manifold from a diesel 318 e36 do the job, or will i have bulkhead/ component clearance issues?
Or has anyone seen any specific e30 manifolds for sale?

- I just want to run 10psi and see what happens!

Looks like you would need an adapter plate or something to get it to fit as the bolt holes dont look like they are in the right place for an m42 head.

Any idea what the port spacing/shape is like?

Also I'm assuming that this manifold is designed for the turbo to be mounted down below;

Is there enough space down below next to the steering column?

If the manifold was rotated and the turbo stuck up next the head, it looks like you would need another modification to move the turbo away from the head a bit.

Definitely interesting though. I shall be watching winkeye

I have made someone an offer of £120 delivered for the one pictured. I figure it's worth a punt at that price. So, all keep your fingers crossed!

i'm sure the m42 head has round exhaust ports and a square 4 bolt flange per port to hold it to the head (although i think most flanges only use 3 bolts as the header gets in the way of the 4th hole, as for positioning i dont think there would be enough room to top mount the turbo especilaly with the coil packs were they are in the oem position although you could fit a COP conversion plate to gain some mor space.

still i think by the time youve made a adaptor plate to mount the manifold you would be to close to the chassic rail to do a bottom turbo build.

Ant did a bottom turbo build on a M40 and had to put the turbo near the front of the engine were the A/C compressor would go to miss the engine mount, i'd guess you would run in to the same problem.. :(

Not much space..

Heres the M42 manifold so you can compare the bolt holes and port spacing/shape.

Here is another option you could consider; using the standard M42 manifold turned upside down as the bolt pattern allows it.

Unfortunately the turbo has to be located fairly far from the manifold, but its an option to keep things cheap.

I just bought the manifold and turbo, and ordered an m42 exhaust gasket to offer up to it, so watch this space!

Oh well, it was worth a try.

You've probably seen it before, but this is the one I think I will be using. It's been used for loads M42 turbo's, with the end 2 cylinders chopped off and used upside down so the turbo sits up next to the head.

That's an M42 turbo manifold.

This is what the M40 standard manifold looks like: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E30/2 ... _manifold/

Stud pattern looks the same.
