Hi All,

Long time viewer, but never posted here. Following some threads on here on M42/M44 swaps I decided a while back to 'upgrade' my 316i.

I'm going with M44B19 block and all M42B18 engine management and exhaust with a chipped ECU.

As with many of the Irish posters on here - I'm on E30owners.com

This is my project thread as is stands at present;

All comments/suggestions welcomed;

Will the M44 engine and M42 management work? I believe 'Magpie' looked into this a while ago but it did seem a bit too much hassle compared to just fitting an M42?

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out though if it does work :)

Yes, with a few caveats. Best way is to use m44 bare block and m42 everything else, that works perfectly and looks completely factory.

I have done exactly that, m44 block & bolted everything else to it! Works fine.

What are the benefits of the m44 over the m42? If I am correct there isn't that much of a power difference is there?

It has more bottom end torque for sure and rev's up so much faster! Your not using the e36 dual mass flywheel so it free's the engine some what.
