M54 Engine Swap into E30

Hi,
I am looking at doing an engine swap and would like some advise on doing an M54 swap.

What would I need to complete the swap;
Can I use the M54 engine wiring loom?
What other engine ancillaries can I use, like radiator, Engine mounts, etc.

Can I use the sump on the M54 or still need to replace this with E34 sump, oil pick up and Dipstick?

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Thx

I've not done the swap but having taken an M54 to pieces and done a couple of M52 swaps...

1) M54 loom & ECU will need to be used and adapted for installation into E30. Some Canbus work may be required on the ECU to remove errors associated with not detecting certain modules, e.g. ABS, PAS control etc.

2) You will still have to use an E34 sump, pickup and dipstick.

I've been looking at the same swap with my cars recently, and this is the best guide i can find:

Anymore info from those who have done the swap will be more than appreciated!

Thank you for the feedback, I have seen that link from r3vlimited, M54 conversion looks to be a mission to achieve. All the resource I have seen/read are all US ones. It looks like the M54 swap is common in US than here in the UK. I have not been able to find any information if anyone has done this here.

Also I understand the EWS remove from the M54 ECU is very difficult.

Would it be possible to remove vanos and run it on m50 management?

You could go for a M54 rotating assembly swap into a M50 or M52 to achieve a 3.0 engine that is easier to put into an E30 than the M54.

It isn't that difficult to do, however cost for parts such as new rings, bearings etc can add up. However, I've read some budget build threads where the M54 parts have been used without new rings etc - I personally wouldn't do it though.
