wow been a while since been on here!

I have a M52 double Vanos 2.8 lump from a Z3 that I am gonna put in my E30.

a few questions:

1. not sure which ECU I have so need to check, but does the wiring loom (says for an E36) as shown in the wiki work for the single AND double Vanos engines?

Not much point unless its the 3.0 double vanos engine
The earlier single vanos 2.8 can be made more powerful for less money

If you have a double vanos engine you most use a double vanos wiring loom and ecu.

Wiring it up, although not massively difficult, is a big job in itself, getting the ECU into a sensible place is the hard part, the wiring is too short to get the ECU under the drivers side of the dash where the ECU is supposed to live in an E30, most people chop the hell out of the big square grommet that the fusebox wiring goes through and sit the ECU in the glovebox area, but there are also several relays, a fuse block, several multiplugs and a load of power wires in the engine loom to find a home for too. If your E30 is quite well specced i.e. ABS, cruise, obc etc there will be lots more wiring in this area already, which will leave the glovebox pretty much useless once you have cable tied everything up!
