Second X20 plug on M52 loom (4 white wires)

Hi all,

Just trying to fathom out what's what on the loom for my M52 swap. Mine has a second X20 connector with only 4 wires in it - 2 white with yellow dashes, a white with a green stripe and a white and pink I think?

I've not seen anything about this on the guides I've read through nor have I seen these colour wires used in the pin guides for the C101 connector.

Any info would be appreciated :)

I tried a vin decoder but the last 7 digits of that vin didn't come up with any results :(

E36 sedan.

You need to use the AP96920

And I think your plug may be the ABS connector.

Ah Thankyou HairyScreech!!

I hope it's just that, and I won't have to worry about it as it is a non abs car. It has the throttle body traction control unit which many don't seem to have? Maybe something to do with it being a later one?

WillNZ wrote:What are the EXACT colours of the wires in that plug? If they are part of the ASC, then the pic you posted only shows half of the story, the rear vision would show additional marker colours on the wires.

When trying to get assistance, particularly with wiring, we need to know ALL the info regarding placement/colours etc or we will not get it right.

I suspect the 2 wires you show and describe as white with yellow dashes (hoops) in fact have a stripe lengthwise as well, one being grey and the other red, with the other 2 being a white/green and a white/grey????

If this is the case, this is part of the ASC and links to the throttle control unit.
Will I think you're right here, apologies for my vagueness!

Here is the full picture I took of the wires -

So it appears we have,
white/grey
white/green
white/yellow hoop/red stripe
White/smaller yellow hoops/unknown colour

I'm not with the car to identify the last wire colour at the moment. They all appear to lead directly to the ECU plug.

I guess seeing as the ASC throttle body will be deleted/unused these are not required?

Is Asc the same as Egr?

Haha, ASC is active stability control.

A combination of the additional throttle body butterfly and the abs unit Indipendantly braking wheels.

I have removed the ASC throttle body and don't have abs so I guess this connector is redundant!

All good stuff there. My M52 Ecu is from an auto, I wonder if I need to have it tweaked more.
I think the German for ASC is EGS as I had that flash up when reading fault codes on mine. Mechanic who read it then spent half an hour saying he was sure my car should have an 'exhaust gas recirculation' valve, which proved hard to find!
