Anyone fitted one in the exhaust side if an m52, any tips for doing so with a dti?

Have been searching threads on fitting the m50 nv inlet cam to the exhaust side of the m50.

From my research so far, m52 is double vanos and the m50 inlet cam is not, so that would be a no, I believe the US s50 exhaust cam may work in the m52, or you could buy an after market exhaust cam for the m52, it all comes down to cost.

So far I haven't been able to find anything that gives a BHP figure on this improvement, so it may be minimal and not worth the expense.

By the way, there are cam timing issues if you use inlet cam to exhaust side, US s50 exhaust cam doesn't have that problem, goes straight in, let you know if I find out more, cheers.

M52 is single vanos. M52TU is double vanos.

Thanks Brian, now that you mention that, I seem to remember that from the wiki, just trying to get as much info on this so called "hot cam" swap as it's called.

do you know much about dropping the m50 inlet cam into the exhaust side as well, so you end up with 240/240 instead of 240/228, cheers.

Its pretty simple to do without a DTI but obviously not as accurate, you can use the old cam to make a reference point for the new

Thanks Danthe,
one of the guys on a US site did as you mention by taking pics of the old cams in place at tdc on number 1, then installed the inlet cam on exhaust side and set it up by eye, it worked for him.

From your knowledge, do you think this swap is worth the effort Bhp wise for a basically street driven car and a bit of fun on the side?

I've been looking into all of this and want to build a 54 bottom end into a m50 NV and use the two nv inlet cams but as you say its an eye it up job to set them but I reckon it won't be that hard. Then once they are set make a jig for future.
Toyed with idea of strapping a SC to it at a later date :)

If you can pick up a cam for £30 odd then its definitely worth the effort, not many non vanos bits around anymore though. Id just buy some proper cams and have some proper gains 8)

Shrick cams look very appealing but carry a hefty price new and don't see them come up second hand very often (usually when I haven't got enough spare £ at the time) hence why thought about the budget option of the extra inlet cam but as you say m50 nv stuff is getting thin on the ground too.found a pair in america but the postage will suck up any savings to be made

Here in Australia, any good its like cams cost a fortune, my research so far tells me the m50 hot cam swap is pretty close to what s50 cams would do in the m50, also found site with timing and some pics, link below, two guys on the link have this setup running.

In the end, I may decide to stay std and get everything up and running and get some schrick cams later, thanks for all the helpful input, it is really appreciated.
