Has anyone done this cheap cam swap? If so, what kind of gains are expected and is there a lot of work required to install them?

That guy is a major bullshit artist, beware of anything he posts.
He rebuilt an engine with a tube of tiger seal once and expected a round of applause
I dont know anyone thats used those cams, but the S52 cams can be had for around £300 - £350

Having been into the vanos of an M54B30 last week I can say the cams are very similar so might fit.
Gains from any cams on an M50/52/54 are worth it, the stock cams are like 228 degrees and 9mm of lift. Wayyyy to mild.
M54B30 cams and S52 cams are 240 degrees and ~10.5mm lift.
It would seem others have fitted the cams to M52s elsewhere however there is a difference between the m52 and the m52tu.

what cams would you use in a m50tu with m54 internals?

I'm running M54B30 Inlet and M52B28 exhaust in mine.
Its a 3.0L in an M50 block using M54 internals as people have previously done.
Machine 5mm off the front of the VANOS gear on the M54B30 inlet cam and it drops right in as the stock M52 cam does. Runs fine, goes well. There is some difference, the pickup is better mid range. Ideally get the US M3 cams, but for a much cheaper upgrade it 'works'.
I'm running on the MS41 (328/M52) ECU, with a modified map.
