e28 m5 mounts

hi guys just finished fitting my m50 today still got a few things to finish off, whilst fitting it i found the engine mounts where a right pain in the arse 
they just wouldn't line up? in the end i had to remove the mount from the engine, place it on the thread of the rubber mount and then move the engine and bolt it to the engine again.
I was just wondering if anyone else had had this problem?
i have used two l/h rubber mounts btw
