m52 crank but no start

M52B28 swapped into an e30, have a ews deleted ECU from DanThe, Has been going well for 5 months up until today. The car won't start at all, it is cranking but does not fire.

No Spark, Fuel injectors are not firing. The fuel pump is priming and there is fuel pressure at the rail however, also the ICV has power when the ignition is on.

Not really sure where to start looking, can the EWS delete cause issues?

Only thing I did today was disconnect the earth terminal briefly. But it fired and drove fine, drove out of town and got stranded after it died and the rev gauge went to 0 while I was driving and felt it die, pulled over and it just cranks and cranks.

For what it's worth, I have replaced almost all sensors on the engine recently, including crank sensor which gave me this exact issue after vanos replacement (the wires were brittle and broke apart).

Did you use an aftermarket/non genuine crank sensor? If so that will be the problem

Could be, I bought it from a guy who deals OEM parts, however I wasn't sure if the brand was OEM or not. Can't remember of the top of my head what it was.

Replaced it over a month ago though. Does the crank sensor stop fuel injectors and ignition?

I'd check the resistance on the crank and cam sensors

How do you test the crank sensor?

The cam sensor is also new one month ago, OEM. Crank sensor was Hans Pries (TOPRAN)

Quick Google suggests it isn't OEM, Also it's a single wire / sensor. I checked pelican parts and it looks like they changed to a plug with a separate wire at some point.

it should have a 3 prong plug on it where it plugs into the harness. Unplug it and test the resistance between the first and second prong. It should read 540ohms +- 10%

Cool thanks I will check that when I remove it. I have managed to sort out a replacement to an OEM one from the supplier that sold me this one so I'm hoping this is the problem and not the DME :?

The reason I replaced it was because of this exact issue right after I did my vanos, But it was because the old one's wires had cracked apart and was falling apart. I managed to tape it up and got it running, then got this Topran replacement one which worked fine for over a month up until randomly yesterday.

E30 LIFE...

Your better off with second hand genuine sensors than aftermarket, as you have found out they usually only last a few weeks
