Hi. I'm sure this questions has been asked before but I can't seem to find much answers. I just wanted to know how much would I be looking to have to spend to put an m50b25 in my 320i? I have all uprated suspension so just for the engine and all parts needed to get it working. Sorry if this is a common question and I know it depends on how cheap I can find the parts. Just wanted a rough guide as weighing up the options of going for m20b25 or m50b25.

Cheers

It all depends on how much work your willing to do Il give you a break down of my spend:

Donor car (e34 525i manual) £450 from this i got engine, loom, ecu, correct sump, throttle cable and radiator, eninge mounts, ZF310 gearbox (good box if want more power than stock)
Exhaust manifold (moddified) £25
Gearbox cross member £20
E36 328i prop £40
Clio servo £25
E36 Engine Arms £20
Exhaust custom by myself, £150

In total £730

i hope to make £100 scrap for the car and make £300 for parts off the 5 series so if that happens will have cost me £330

Just for the engine swap - I bought a 328i convertible for £480 and took engine, mounting arms, wiring loom, gearbox, propshaft and electric fan. I got £90 back for the car in scrap, so call that £390 all in for bits.
£40 for fan loom
£120 for converted engine loom
New 'stat housing, 'stat, water pump, aux belt, sparkplugs, p/s pump pully, oil & oil filter, rocker gasket & silicone hoses & assorted fittings totalling about £200
£90 for new radiator
£40 for engine mounts
£200 on E34 sump & disptick tube + M50 inlet manifold.
£300 for lightened flywheel & new M20 clutch, release bearing, flywheel bolts, gearbox mounts, prop donut, linkage refresh, transmission & diff oils, centre bearing etc.
£450 on used Z3M LSD - required to match ratios on E36 gearbox.
About £250 on DanThe exhaust manifolds & downpipes and a used 325i system iirc.

So about £2100 all in, all work done by myself. I didn't need a Clio servo as I have an un-assisted pedal box setup. Doesn't include what else I've spent on chassis, brakes, steering and whatnot!
