E30 Zone

M52 with a 3.64 diff what top speed will i get???


I have a 3.91 and get about 115-120mph ish and I don't use 1st gear as its too short a ratio

I need more top end ;)


Anyone confirm what the top will be with a 3.64 before I go and buy one.

something the same i think so i had about 130 mph and my rev limiter was at 7000 .

Sounds like a 3.25 is what you need.

What gearbox are you using and what tyre size do you have? If you can tell me that I'll post up a little graph

Mines a m42 box with standard wheels/tires - if you want to use that for a nice graph

Here's the graph for m42 'box, 205/55/15 tyres and 3.64 diff. Give or take 10% for inaccuracies in actual rolling radius, tread depth, tyre deformation etc.

Note that the E36 box makes a big difference if you're using that, due to no overdriven 5th.

No worries - it would be interesting to get some feedback to see how it measures up to actual GPS measured road speed! Not done that myself yet either. According to the graph for my setup, (205/45/16 tyres, E36 ZF g'box and 3.15 diff) I'll hit the rev limiter at about 150ish. Probably just about right for a trackday car

Perfect ratio for your box/engine as a road car that is mate.

Marc yours will still be revvy with a 3.64 as your using an E36 box, 1:1 5th gear, but that ratio should be more widely available and probably cheaper than something like a 3.25 or 3.38 which might be better suited now you have a torquey motor in the bay

Definately Dan mate, it certainly feels right for everyday driving, and ideal on the motorway. Just waiting on the arrival of a coding plug from adit so that my rev counter isn't whacko and i'll let you know how it compares to what my sat nav says - ~2800rpm at 70 mph sounds pretty much dead on..

Well I was going to buy the 3.64 that I have an eye on.

Pretty sure same for me too!, only niggle is that at 70mph in 5th it's revving at over 3000rpm which feels a little high compared to modern cars, I've enough torque to pull from much lower revs at that speed but it's nice to be able to properly fly away without changing down

How would a 6spd box work with the same diff? Would it sit lower down the revs at 60/70mph or would you need a different diff ratio altogether to make it work nicely?

You can use e36 328 diff internals into a e30 325 diff, to give perfect ratios!
