m52 keeps cutting out

Hiya

The car doesn't idle properly, and keeps cutting out. I took off the maf sensor and it idles better, but will cut out when I approach junctions.

I have tried 2 different mafs and still get the same issue.

Any ideas?

Idle control valve round the wrong way or not working? That's what mine did when it was back to front.

Car has been running fine until now - I must say that sometimes the exhaust pops on the overrun if that makes a difference

I had this - turned out the idle control valve where it takes the feed from the inlet elbow had come off and was letting unmetered air in.

Id advise you to check it again.

idle control valve, or hoses going to it. My hose had a slight split and did the same thing.

Ok nickso - you were right - thanks to everyone who advised the same thing (which is everyone lol)

While we are at it - how can I get the check engine oil light to go out once the engine is started like before

Did you ever sort this. Mine does the same thing and also the coolant light.

How do you get the M52 low level oil / coolant sensors to talk to the check control?

Ste the coolant level wiring is part of the body loom, will just need extending to the E36 level sensor which is located in the bottom of the expansion tank (if you have one)

The oil level wiring is part of the engine loom, I usually add this to the looms on request, dont ask me about yours though it was a while ago...

Easy to tell as there will be a loose 3 pin plug floating about by the LH side of the sump/PAS pump

This will also only work properly if your sump has a level sensor fitted

Note that the coolant level sensors for E30's and E36's are different, although (almost) identical in appearance. Use the wrong one, and the light will come on when the level is fine, but stay off when it's low.
