zf gearbox - 5th gear problem

hi all
supposed to start swap on wednesday this week. got every thing crossed of the list of parts so 100% ready to put everything in to my e30. As today i was looking on my m52b28 motor with zf gearbox attached (as yesterday i fitted m20 lightended flywheel,m20 starter and ZF box from 528i) i tried to put in all gears useing screwdriver ;). all four gears and reverse working nicely but 5th one doesnt want to move in.
so i did took spring ,pin and dowel out from 5th gear hole in the gearbox but still it doesnt want to move into it. it doesnt want to move into engage position).
got all setup ready for this box as i got 328 prop , gear selector and 2.93 diff.
Will my box from m40 engine work with those parts?
any idea what can be up with the box?
feel like givin it a proper tap with 7lbs hammer
