ANNOUNCEMENT: M50 Manifolds

The M50B25 is the best manifold for M5x engines, including the M52B28.

However, there is a fundamental difference between 2.0 and 2.5 intake manifolds for these engines. A number of unscrupulous people have been known to sell the smaller manifold as a 2.5 unit, which will severely affect the performance of the engine.

ANNOUNCEMENT: VANOS rattle and repair

The VANOS systems fitted to the M5x are prone to rattling with time. While not a critical issue, it is downright annoying. BMW are aware of this, and repair parts available from dealers to resolve the issue.

ANNOUNCEMENT: M50/M52 Wiring looms

The M5x engines use a different loom plug to your E30. You'll therefore need to be get creative with the soldering iron to join it to the E30's C101 plug.

The wiring differs between engines sourced from E34 and E36 cars. The table on the Wiki page will show you how to wire up both types.
