Blue wire to starter...

I'm having a bit of trouble with the blue wire that connects to the starter motor (E30 starter) on my M52,
If/when it's connected up to the starter, all the lights on the instrument cluster stay on, while the engine is running,
inc the handbrake, when it's not even engaged,
but if its disconnected, i don't have any lights
Any thoughts ??

Shouldnt be a blue wire to the starter, just the battery cable, Black/Yellow and Black/Green
Blue wire goes to alternator

Really..
hmm that would explain a few things,
but....
I only have the 1 connector on the alt, for the fat red wire to go on to,

Will it do any harm being disconnected?
I suspect not ??

yeah, no problems there,
i'v been using it for a week or so now,
never missed a beat,
might have a look about for another alternator
or not,
as its working like it should,
not really fussed about the lights on the clock,
but would be nice to have them i suppose

Last time I was messing with a conversion with one of these alternators (E46 car) it wouldnt charge and I had to fit the older style alt and add an ignition wire to get it to charge
