E30 Zone

hi there.
Right then i sold my 1992 e36 325i to a friend 5 years ago.The body is now falling off and the welding has started every year for the last three MOTs.He is not putting another MOT on next year.So if i take the car back for scrap price.What extra am i looking at spending roughly.I have a 320i 1991 e30.thanks kev

To do the conversion? IIRC 2k plus was required for an M50 conversion.

I was thinking about sourcing everything extra i could from the breakers. Would it still be that much.

Need to look at your suspension and brakes etc. too. Power is nothing without control!

i can supply all the parts, and do a drive in drive out m50 conversion for alot less than that

The only major components you need are an E34 sump and pick up, a suitable brake servo, an exhaust manifold and system, a suitable diff and prop, plus an electric fan if your E36 doesn't have one.
There isn't £2k worth there second hand, and there is the chance of a little back for frag from the 36.

i was thinking nowhere near 2k!! doner e34, m42 box a brake servo off clio/golf and away to go.... the servo can be found in a breakers yard. for 2k i'd want brand new parts

Hi there everyone and thanks for the replys. What brakes would i need to use.I am quite sure i could get the e34 sump cheap enough and the servo.Can i use the e36 gearbox.I did have a quick look in the m50/52 conversions but it seamed mostly m52 which i understand i have had a 328i 1998 and a 528i 1997.But they are not an option for me as i can get this 325i for scrap.I am on a super tight budget.So when i get it what do i need to save as i cant have this e36 clogging up the mother in laws drive up as i have already stolen her garage for the e30.Thanks again...kev

If your on a tight budget your not in a good position really as you will soon be looking at stuff and thinking i could do with that and that and its all gone out of control. Thats what happened to me but i have been a bit anal with the stuff im doing renewing lots of worn out bits on the car

So true. You end up thinking "while this is in bits I might as well.....etc etc". Do it properly once and it's done, rather than do it while counting the pennies and you'll only end up spending on some areas twice.

Its like a never ending story these cars are sometimes but as soon as you drive them it all becomes a thing of the past

Depends how much you can do yourself and how many new bits you put on it at the same time but I'd say between 500-1000. I'd say I spent more on exhaust bits than I spent buying the engine package, and it's still shit If I was doing it again I'd just bite the bullet and get an SS one made up.

thanks everyone.A lot to think about. Time is not a problem the car was brought to park in the garage and roll out in a good few years. i was watching the prices for a while and i figured if i waited any longer the prices would be going up and i would not be able to have one. I am using a lot of part off my other friends e30 325i.He has two spare m20 25s maybe it would be better for me to throw one of them in if i go down the engine swap road. Thanks again

I'm disappointed I didn't get to see your touring before you modified it (side on ). Even when the car was bent the engine bay looked so professional.

Cheers, the chromie engine bay looks even better I think, although it's not finished in this pic
