528i isnt ideal becuase of the dual vanos on the engine (PITA to install when in an e30) and you need to use a 328i loom anyway.
buy an el cheapo e36 donor - my engine has been free with more in return

My list of parts
1995 E36 328i M52 Engine - with EWS
328i exhaust manifold from above
E34 525 24v sump, oil pickup pipe & dipstick tube
E30 M3 electric fan - any E36 air con fan will do
E28 M5 rubber engine mounts - about £60 from BMW
Plug & play custom engine loom - DanThe
PLug & play custom electric fan loom - DanThe
Clio bosch servo - get from any plastic winged clio (E30 master cylinder bolts straight up
E30 318iS gearbox
E30 325 clutch & flywheel
E30 320 gear shift rods
Z3 1.9 gear shifter (quickshift) - optional - E30 one works fine
E30 325 propshaft
E30 3.9:1 LSD (it's a bit revvy on the motorway but gets off the line like stink)
E30 M3 scorpion stainless exhaust system - optional - E30 325 system is OK, but the M3 system is 50mm twin tube all the way though and helps a lot.
Custom made PAS pipes
E36 steering rack

If you use the e36 rack you shouldn't need custom pas pipes, well i didn't but im doing a M50
http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BMW_5 ... 8268b&ENGM
Those are the mounts i used, cheaper than going to BMW.
Defo agree with Beemerlad on the exhaust, im using a E30 325 system and i think its going to restrict it quite abit (my thought is it will get me going) if you can try pick up a stainless system from the start.
Has anyone achieved good power with the standard system?
Dont forget you need a starter motor off a facelift E30 M20 engine if you are using a M20 flywheel and clutch.

You need an engine that wont crap it self in a few weeks.
Better off buying a complete as many have done Magpie.
24v

, but at least your going 6pot

The 2.8 lump had nikasil linings did it not?
Get a 2.7 or 2.8 m20 lump in it!

That's a nice concise list. Have you posted it in the M50 development thread as a list like that? If not it would be good to have it there.

Just a few things to add there
Custom splined steering shaft - DanThe
E34 Steering U-Js (x2) Any E34 at a scrapy but you need two of them
Above not critical but makes the manifold alittle easier.
E30 brown temp sensor (to give the E30 clocks a reading)
E36 328 rad plus another drives side E30 rad mount (E36 rad wider)
E36 318 air-con fan temp switch
M50 Sump and manifold gaskets as your taking them off and changing them and if your fitting an M50 inlet.
E30 spigot bearing if your using an iS gearbox.

So the mighty M42 finally coming out then Mick?
I'd be the same anyway if it wasn't for for our retarded tax system that makes the 2.8 600 euro more a year than an M42.
So it's a case of build a 2.8 baiting 318iS. Already almost as quick as a good 328 so can't take much more for an E30 328
