m50 swap won't turn over

I've decided to have another go at my m50 project but can't get the engine to turn over all that happens is it the starter clicks i've tried attaching another earth but same thing happens has anyone got any ideas?

ive connected another power cable and it turns over fine am i missing something here? i've been using the original wiring actually on the engine but modified the loom

does the live go battery ---> starter----->alternator?
Got the earth strap connected on the driver side engine mount?

it turns out i didnt have a live from the battery to the starter it had been connected to the battery clamp in a loop which i failed to notice
