Coolant hoses

I've got a fair few hoses and don't know where they go!

Just removed all the radiator air ducts and test fitted my 328i rad.

Thought I'd get my head around the hoses.

I have 2 thick hoses that are fairly short - these are obvious and connect to the biggest ports on the rad and go to the thermostat housing. (items 1 &2)

then, still on the engine I have a massive hose that has a fair few bends in it and looks as though it would connect to the rad at the bottom of the expansion chamber. (item 5)

There is one other port on the rad that is tiny. It's just under the expansion chamber. Also what does the little port on the head, right at the front on the exhaust side, connect to?

temp sensor plugs into the vacant theaded hole on the right hand side of the rad.

I suspect the extra little outlet you refer to is where there should be a blue plastic drain plug. There is one on the side of the rad at the bottom IIRC which does nothing

If that's the pic from realOEM then I found that the heater connections needed to be the other way around - had no heater till I swapped them.

The little outlet could be part of the throttle body heater circuit?

I think you're right. I have a small hose that seems to connect to a port on the head. Right next to the temp sensors.

yes thats for the throttle body. i binned it and filled it with a sump plug IIRC. the other part was welded up.

the big long hose that runs to the bottom of the rad is stil required though.
