Spigot bearing and fan switch

Hi,

does anyone know what size spigot bearing I need to order for using M50B25 with m40 gearbox? A part number would be even better.

Similarly the fan switch, I seem to remember there are 2 different temps available? Does anyone know which temperature I need or a part number?

TIA

Dink

For the spigot bearing you need to measure the input shaft on the M40 box.(i think its 15mm,but not 100% sure)
Just tell BM that you need a bearing for an M50 engine and tell them the size of the shaft.

As for the temp switch i dont know.

you will need an m40 spigot bearing. As for the temperature switch - what thermostat do you have? 88 degree one i presume?

Haven't looked at the thermostat yet was going to order a new 88 degree one with the alloy housing.

My M50 was a manual out a 1992 e34. Anyone know if the spigot bearing in it will be suitable?

You must be able to use either then.

So was the input shaft on your M40 box 15mm?

Is the spigot bearing the 'grooved ball bearing' that is listed but not pictured on this diagram?

15x32x10mm - is that 15mm internal dia 32mm external 10mm depth?

I used a m20 spigott bearing with the m42 gearbox on my M52 conversion, using M20 flywheel & clutch.

 Is that a 12mm spigot then?? Think I'll just have to measure my input shaft!

Go to bmw with your vin / numberplate of your e30 (i presume you are doing it to the e30 that came with the m40 box?) and ask for a spigot bearing for that car. Thats what i did because bmwfans.info lists two different shaft sizes.

I'd definately change the thermostat to an 88 degree one, it makes a great difference to the running temperatures. Your m50 should already have an ally thermostat housing though :? If you use the 88 degree thermostat and are using a twin speed fan you will need a 81/88 degree twin temperature sensor iirc.

Thanks, I may have an alloy stat housing already, the engine is in my mate's lockup at the moment so can't be too sure!

Right, after some further research about spigot bearings I've determined that -

External diameter is the same on m20/m40/m5x @ 32mm

m20 and m40 boxes have a 12mm input shaft

m50 boxes have a 15mm input shaft.

So I've ordered a 12mm spigot part no 11211709681.

Does anyone have part numbers for the 88 degree thermostat and the 81/88 fan switch?

Thanks.
