Opinions needed
Do you think someone could get away with this (hypothetically speaking)
engine swap to m50b25, but tell the insurance company and V5 that you've installed the m50b20, i mean, if you got caught would they even bother to look at the engine serial number (if there is one).
just curious

just not worth the risk.
When you actually need the insurance, you'll get screwed. So you'll pay the premiums and get nowt in reverse. I don't just mean that you won't get paid out for your car, but if you have a fault accident and damage someone else's property or injure them, your insurers will still have a legal obligation to deal with the third party claim, but then they'll come after you for the money they have just paid out.
I wouldn't imagine the premiums are massively different between a B20 and a B25 M50 as it still is an engine swap, so you're always going to get violated for a few quid

yeah, your probably right, thanks, its just the fact that the engines look similar..
the 'hypothetical' company doesnt support any modifications anyway!

If somebody were to try this, it would be both stupid and illegal.
If you cannot afford the insurance then don't buy/modify the car.
Cheaper premiums are great, the true measure of insurance and the company which provides it is when you need to make a claim. These companies are in business to make profit like any other. They will look for every way to avoid paying out, especially if you drive a modified car.

Give them the engine number. Tell them it's cc. Do you think they will know / check what engine it is?
