For my M50 swap i`m using an engine from an E36 auto.
Somebody mentiond to me that i`d need a spigot bearing for which ever gbox that i`ll be using which is an M40 one.

Asked cotswold for a price and he said is it the flywheel bearing i need cuz there is two different sizes and asked for the chassis number but i never had the car,i brought a lump & box for spares for my 1.8 cab.

What i need to know is how do i work out which bearing i need?
Apart from ordering both, being a dolite for the last 6mths ordering both isnt realy an option.I`m just slowly but surely building my bits up.

Cook or Dan where are you? you seem to know everything i`ve asked so far. :D

Thanks.

Chris.

To find out what size bearing you need measure the diameter of the input shaft on your gearbox, it should be 12mm diameter, the M50 bearings/box shafts are 15mm

Cheers mate

Just been outside and measured the shaft and it was 15mm.
Its deffo an M40 box, i took it off the lump.
Cant say what year it came out of.The bloke had done an M40 to M42 swap and i brought the lot for £20 off e bay with loads of history (he was gutted) :)

Measured an M20 one and that was 12mm

What do you reckon
M50 bearing?

Yep, all the M50's ive seen have used 15mm bearings, the sizes are given in the parts description so if you tell them the measurement you cant go wrong

It is needed yes, this is what I was going on about fitting a 12mm shaft into a 15mm bearing is just wrong!
Not to worry though, its got a big f*ck off ZF box on the back of it now :)
