Hi Guys,

Finally getting round prepping the M52 engine before it is ready to drop into the e30 and I wanted to know what is worth replacing before I do?

I have a new set of CAMS to go on and have to change the sump and removing the power steering so any idea where to get a belt that will be the right size?

So I am thinking:

-Rocker gasket
-Sump gasket
-knock sensors
-Alternator (don't have much history of the engine)
-metal thermostat housing

Anything else?

Where can I get these things?

Water pump & thermostat :)

Maybe some early poverty spec 320i E36s had no PAS? Check on realOEM - if so, that should give you the right belt.

Only thing that needs doing to the alternator is to remove the regulator pack and check the length of the brushes.

Excellent, thanks guys. Mine has a plastic housing for the water pump, I have read it was worth changing to a metal one. Any idea where to buy that?

its the thermostat housing that will have a plastic housing however the water pump originally came with a plastic impellor that is prone to failing so definitely worth changing. change all gaskets if possible.

I have never seen a m52 knock sensor fail so I personally wouldn't bother. also if alternator is ok... why waste your money?

Ive also never known a dodgy knock sensor, or alternator on an M52.

I do lots of conversion parts for M52 conversions by the way, check out my page if your on the facebook :D

Hey guys, still collecting bit for the m52 conversion. I was originally relying on wms for the brakes but hadn't checked for a while and looks like they won't be doing any kits for a while. Does anyone know of any other good kits that can bought new? Really wanted to get new running gear as opposed to old stuff. But at the same time I don't think brembo is necessary. Any suggestions?

Dan may also be able to advise you on brakes. Also if you decide to replace alternator anyway I have a brand new genuine BMW one still in the box :)
