Just wondering.. I have a 320i with no abs installed but I will be installing 51mm strut housings that fit abs sensors..
Do I need to legally fit abs if swapping to a m52 or can I blank it?
How hard is it to just wire it in? (I would prefer to have abs)

As far as the MOT is concerned you'll be fine with no ABS even if there is the casting on the strut for a sensor.

You don't legally need to fit ABS because of the conversion. Fitting ABS might be a good idea, but I don't think it's a straightforward job to retrofit it.

I may have a full ABS set up I removed from my track car. Would have to check if I did remove it all properly or if I cut it out

I a few months from starting the build so no worries about the abs loom. Thanks for the info guys.
Also the last thing is when fitting the m52 do you need to run new clutch lines for slave and master or will the slave be in the same place as before or even closer so you just have to modify the existing cable?

You can use the standard lines. Worth renewing the flexi hose while you are there.

If you really want ABS then your better off fitting the later E46 system, its so much better than anything else. I have it on my track car see here - http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... &start=150

Whats the procedure if I dont want abs? Can I actually remove the abs pump off the m52 engine? Sounds like it would make life easier regarding fitting the m52 ait filter housing instead of a k&n cone filter

The ABS pump is on the car, behind the NS headlight, yes you can remove the entire system if you wish

There should be no ABS pump on the engine...
