As the title suggests. What is the best brake servo for the M50 conversion in your opinion. I'm thinking of carrying out the conversion but need some advice. I've come across so many threads and it's confusing!
Some people have used the
Golf (Mk1 or Mk2 server??)
Clio server
Porsche 944 server
Some have used the 325ix and some say they've used the same standard ones.
I understand some of these require a lot of work. But which one would be the best in terms of stoping and the overall feel. And also easier to source!

Basically all of the above. You can use the standard E30 servo, but it needs moving over towards chassis leg - this is quite a bit of work.
The VW Golf and Porsche servos fit, but they are old now and may be more difficult to find. You will need a small spacer to fit between the pushrod in the servo and the master cylinder.
The Clio servo will be the newest available. It fits without issue other than also needing the spacer as above.
No idea on the iX servo, but it won't be easy finding one in the UK.
For me, it would be the Clio servo everytime.

Thanks for the reply... I can get hold of a VW golf servo. But do you think the Clio server would be better as it is newer technology?
Overall is the Clio servo better than the VW servo?

Plastic winged Clio (2001-2007 I think).
Mk1 Golf GTi or Mk2 Golf 1.3 - they are slightly different but both fit.
Having used both the VW servos, I would recommend the Clio servo.

I used a Clio servo on my M52'd Touring. It's a Bosch item. Luckily enough I found it on ebay being sold by a Renault parts dealer. It was brand new in the box and for a bargain price, so I was lucky. If you scour ebay and Renault forums you may find a bargain too. Just takes a bit of time and patience.
As for the operation of it, I'm very pleased with it and it works very well.

Quite often a cut down bolt is used for the spacer.Acaciastrain360 wrote:Does anyone know the dimensions for the spacer required? And have anyictures?
The spacer length will vary from car to car, it's just trial and error to find the length for your car - you obviously don't want it too short so there is slack between the servo pushrod and master cylinder, or too long causing the brakes to bind.

So I need about a 15mm spacer made from a cut down bolt? And where do I place this? Does it just sit somewhere?WillNZ wrote:Just remember the brake pull rod from the pedal linkage to the booster linkage is quite adjustable so you dont have to fiddle endlessly with getting the spacer length just right. Just make sure it is not too long, as mentioned above!!jmc330i wrote:Quite often a cut down bolt is used for the spacer.Acaciastrain360 wrote:Does anyone know the dimensions for the spacer required?
