i know its a personal thing and how you drive etc... but... i have been using an e36 on track for a few years with m50b25 power, i have a spare motor and am also building an m50b28. question is now that i am swapping to an e30 325i track car is the m50 worth the swap? i know weights and power for the various motors but in real world ie 0-60 etc is it a noticable difference or just a more smooth drive?? i will also be entering the practical performance car £999 challenge again and hope the e30 fairs better than the e36 did due to the sweeter handling and lower weight...

thats the sort of answer i wanted!! i have a non vanos 2.5 and a non vanos 2.8 in progress which should give similar power but a tad heavier.... cool willnz cheers
I always thought the m52b28 (alloy block) was nearer the weight of an m42 than the m20?

Very smooth driving there. Very often more progressive and aggressive than those in front of youE30BeemerLad wrote:here are some trackday vids

It's not me in the vids, I crashed the touring before it got anywhere near a track
I think the guy in the vids is a member though, Stoneyv6 or something similar

s50, fi or m60/62 will be better, but also more expensive/complicated! (all though i think the later is a little heavier). I guess it depends exactly what you want it for and even what sort of tracks your hoping to use!
My 2.7 m20 track car needs one of the above and i am currently leaning towards a supercharger conversion.
If your gonna go down the m50 route, definatly go 2.8 with =m20 fly wheel, 2.5 intake, chip etc etc
m50 2.5 may well dissapoint you, as there not much better for track use than the m20 or particulary more tunable from what i have read!

i have the complete m20, m50 and as i say a spare m50 and m52b28 bottom end so its a choice of those... m50 to build it then swap 2.8 in once done... i have a parts budget total of £999 for it to be able to compete anyway so s50's etc are a no no for sure!!! i got hold of sump pick up etc of a zoner and it's on route up north right now so i suppose decision made, m50b28 it is!!!
as for which track days /tracks it'll be any i get chance of, from Blyton the local through to a (fingers crossed ) ring trip this summer...

it is, i have the car motor etc etc so no spending to do really and about £300 left of budget!! maybe more as i have spare 17" wheels etc to sell for the budget and the left overs from the swap!!!
Blyon is actually Blyton... lincolnshire near scunthorpe... rough and ready but its normally around £50 for the day open pits and no flags so its alot of giggles for the money!!!!
