E30 Zone

Hi guys been having a craic at installing the boat anchor today.
My engine mounts that I have have two holes.

My aim is to hit the holes furthest to rad so engine is back as far as possible.

Struggled to hit them but able the first set of holes.
When sitting in the first set of holes I have the same clearance between the bulkhead and head as I do between the difference in holes!!

It's seems that the sound deading might need removing, is that a common issue?
Cut it out or lump hammer?

Oh and I spent about 3-4 hours having a craic at the e30 - e34 steering knuckle/UJ for the Danthe e46 steering rack conversion.
Simple once you stop thinking too hard!!

I think it's quite common to remove the sound deadening to get the lump in. But I've also seen conversions with the sound deadening still in place. I think it depends on the engine mounts you have.

Mine was sound deadening off and in it went in the furthest back position on Lee's mounts. The car I did previously I also "massaged" the bulkhead around the trans tunnel with a hammer, though I did it so enthusiastically that I caused the brake rod to bind up against the pushed in bulkhead...

It should fit but its dead tight and i did remove the sound deadening but wish i had left it on now. When you do up the gear box mounts it does tilt the engine a little further away. Try all you can to lever it in position with the soundproofing in place.

Got it in guys, sound deading still in place!

engine crane no load leveller, trolley Jack on gearbox. up down up down, push, lift, up down, rachet strap on rear beam and engine mount (pointless), hammer on engine mount and it pops in!

Now got to get time to plumb and connect the cables, plugs etc,
exhaust, bleed coolant, connect clutch nipple behind gearbox and prop.

missed some I reckon.

nice work mate, I wish I'd left the sound proofing on but all the advice here was to take it off.

now the work really starts !!
