is it possible to lift the m30 engine and box from an e30 without a load leveller?

ive got an e30 with m30 already in but im swapping it into my other shell and don't have a load leveller. Ill be taking it out in the morning and was thinking I could raise the rear of the car and my brother pulls down on the back of the box with abit of rope. Is this possible has anybody else done it this way before?

thanks shane

yer you can do it but I would take off the power steering pp first and the rad of course

just angle it your self manually and take it out millimetre by millimetre

remove the gear linkage of course also and try to angle the back of the car up

get some pics up :D

thanks jim. I spent half the day stripping it down everything out from the top.. bonnet, rad, loom and disconnected all the hoses etc.. thought I could get away with the powersteering pump but ill take it off in the morning. Just need to take exhaust, prop, and gear linkages which ill do in the morning also then should be out by lunchtime.

Never done an engine swap before so should be interesting. Might start up a build thread

Yer that should be fine, you can pull them out with the PS pump attached but it will touch the front panel (even if the other end is touching the bulkhead) but it is a lot lot easier to take the PS pump off first.

GB Slave cylinder, just take off the 2 nuts.

it's a big heavy beast so take the usual safety precautions !!

With all the bits mentioned taken off I would not bother raising the rear of the car, it will come out fine....up a bit...angle a bit....up a bit....angle a bit.....

Enjoy !!

did my head in abit because I took them so ide remember where all the hoses and plugs go to. luckily I labelled the wires up and wrote them down and hoses etc should be easy enough to remember.

jimbom you could actually be my hero mate! ill deffinatly give you a shout if/when I get stuck. From what ive done so far its easie than I thought. Think the biggest challenge will be converting it to manual but its all there so ill try my best to remember how it went.
