After finding out my PO had wound the cO2 screw in all the way I adjusted it and got my car running good.
I want to set the AFM correctly with an exhaust analyzer that my mate is going to lend me for the afternoon so it will pass emissions tests. But I need to know what is the correct level of c02 the m30 should be putting out?
Anyone know or can lend some experience on this?

Cheers Jer.!
So what do I do with a twin tail pipe and a gas sniffer with 1 probe? Do I measure each tail pipe then add the values together?

Are the pipes seperate all the way through the system?

Yup, m30 headers going into a 325i exhaust system. No X pipe.!

Same set up as I have on mine, I didn't realise the pipes were kept seperate inside the boxes, I just assumed they were 2 perforated pipes inside each box so the gases mixed!

So how do you accurately test a twin pipe then?

With a y tube connected to the probe.
If you can get a reading of 1 30 ish it will be fine. I run mine rich due to n2o input and the limit for these age cars is very high so don't worry about mot.

Cheers Marc,
I still want to tune up my AFM, it's 1000 times smoother at idle now I wound the screw out but still not perfect. I get bugged by little things which is not great when owning an e30 )
So a healthy cO2 mix at idle should read around 1.3 you say ?

Having an X pipe will really drag the torque up if its in the right place... Worth the investment!

If its a standard 325i exhaust, I've never cut open a centre box, but the backbox is separated into 3 sections along its length. Both pipes pass through each section in a complicated mess of pipes to keep the noise low, and the gas from each pipe does mix in each section of the box through perforated pipes.
My 325i was gas tested with a single probe in one tailpipe and when the MOT place got a new gas tester, a single probe in a large 'cup' type collector that covered both tailpipes. It never failed an emissions test and the results didn't really vary between tests.

The sausages?!
Yeah don't see the point in the s14 engine thb, very expensive engine that doesn't produce that much power...

sorry.!

It was a challenge.....!
Horses for courses - one man's meat is anothers poison and all that.
And by fook it was expensive - you are right there... But... It will make the right noise - they do make good power though when well set up.
Sausage face woman - I miss that!

You can't compare an s14 and an m30. The s14 is such a good power base and can be driven so hard it will always be the thrash engine of choice. The m30 will take a kicking and make good power but just not In the same way.

I can agree to that Marc, I guess the S14 is gearing towards racing and can take be driven on the limit all the time, where as a standard m30 isn't setup that way.!
They do scream I must say.
