M10 flywheel on M30 engine with M20 clutch kit?

Hi all
I'm in the process of fitting an m30 engine and G260 box from an e34 into a facelift e30 and I would like to ditch the dual mass flywheel in favour of a single mass item. The M40 flywheel is a no go and I have a M20 HD clutch kit laying about with options on a couple of second hand HD puck clutches to suit the M20 too.
So can i pick up a 318i M10 flywheel, bolt it to my M30 then fit the M20 Hd clutch of my choice?
Will my plan work?
Or am I going have to go down the e28 528i SM flywheel and 240mm M5 clutch path? It works great in my e34 but it wasn't cheap!
lastly... pics!
This entire project is being cobbled together from left overs from other projects and money raised from parting out my rusted out e21.
So far so good, and still with $700 in the kitty!
I already have a stroker e30 and the pulse red e30 is my sisters that I built up for myself from a 325e before I found the white one for sale with all the bells and whistles that i wanted complete and ready to go just as the 325e was going to be painted. I did a deal to complete the 325e for her and brought the stroker!

I dont think a M20 clutch will mate to a M10 flywheel im sure the clutch friction area is bigger on M20.
Dont try and use an M20 flywheel either as the starter doesnt mesh properly.

Get the engine in position 3 aswell.

I'm pretty sure that's the case too. I used an M10 box, M10 flywheel and an uprated M10 paddle clutch on my M30B35 and it worked pretty well. The uprated paddle clutch was approx £250 so it's still not a cheap way out.

Get the engine in position 3 aswell.
I'm not sure there is room for these mounts to go back to PIII.
But the engine will be coming out and going back in a few more times yet before this car sees any action, so the firewall may get more hammering.

Are mounts from me? looks like it will go back more, in pos 3 that little tab on the end of the rocker disappears into the sound deadening.

They are .de mounts that were made about 3 years ago. I brought them off a local who never used them.
I think I will remove all that sound deadening and apply more hammer, then try again.

There's one stud (for guiding the brake lines) that you'll want to remove from your firewall.
Removing the sound deadening will at least help you when you want to tilt the engine backwards when in it's final position.
This is the clearance you're looking at when having the engine in 'pos 3' after having removed sound deadening.

I haven't done any hammering. After having put the engine in it's final position you can use some kind of breaker bar to wiggle between the cylinder head and the firewall to move the sheet metal a bit. That'll make your life a lot easier when you want to tilt back the engine a bit.

That is what I did too

I really didn't have any difficulty in putting the engine in pos 3. I think I pulled some of the hydraulic lines up slightly and "adjusted" some of the gearbox/firewall area with a rubber mallet and it went straight in.

Gudday Nick
I'm Located at Sunnybank Hills, it always helps to compare notes. There are a few of us on Eurocca.net doing the conversion too.
As for the flywheel/clutch issue I grabbed an e12 525i M30 7kg flywheel and unused clutch kit off ebay. Got it all for a great price!
hopefully problem solved

Thread update on getting my engine into PIII!
I took my 323i for a trackday on the weekend and while I was prepping it I noticed that the engine mounts in my 323i were significantly shorter than the mounts in my 335i project.
65mm 335i mount.
Steering rack clearance.
45mm mount in 323i.
I scrounged the 65mm mounts off the subframe of a 323i I parted out some time ago and it seems that they are UNSUITABLE.
Looks like I will be opening my wallet.
