I'm trying in vain to get my 335i (ex 320i) touring covered on a classic policy but I'm having difficulty either getting a reasonable quote or they have a fit about the engine size!

Doubt you will get it on a classic insurance IMO, thought that was just for standard(ish) cars? I'm with Sky, with engine conversion, uprated brakes and suspension declared, they were the cheapest.

Mine was a 320 before as well. My policy doubled from going from a 2litre to a 3.5!

I'm adrain flux too because of the mods. But in not paying much more than garath fully comp !

I'm paying about £600 tpft with mod's declared It was the cheapest I could get it at the time but it is up for renewal next month

All my NCB is with Admiral on a multi car policy, the car was too modified to add it with our two other cars, so classic insurance is my only option. I've had modified classic insurance before but it seems they are being stricter, even if I am 2 years older!

Flux quoted me £520, which is too much for classic insurance, at that price I'd just not bother considering I'm already paying Admiral for my daily (Land Rover Defender).

Heritage who I used to insure a modified E28 520i (2.5 M20, lowered) for £280 couldn't quote me, too modified no garage.

Lancaster, this was a good one, no garage AND they were fine with the engine but since I haven't uprated the brakes they can't quote me... Bearing in mind my 320i is a touring, so 325i spec brakes.

At this point I expect the car will be broken. No one wants to buy it for £1500 and there's no point keeping a car I can't drive. Priced and regulated out of driving my own possesion, it grinds my gears!

In case your wondering, I'm 26, no accidents, no claims, clean license, very good rural area, driving for 9 years, parked on private property/driveway. High risk I guess

i wonder how many people with modified cars actually declare ALL the mods to the insurance company.....i'm willing to bet that less than 50% are declared

Mine has brakes, suspension, engine, exhaust.... a loooong old page of mods (adrian flux modified vehicle report from FTL!) so they're good for me

It's a foolish risk that too many people take. Especially as adrian flux seem to reduce the premium if you modify the car...! It opens up a load more options for them! Like a red rag to a bull it is!

Yeah that have a big list for me too, including N2O and cage. first I had classic with them which was 340 then last year they said why not do the fully comp as it works out a few quid cheaper. And renewed again this year as it went down again. Happy days.

Mines just under £300 with ALL mods declared, engine, suspension, wheels, interior, exterior etc...

I declared EVERYTHING and my S50'd e30 was similar money to insure, FC, at a younger age, as a main car, with an 8k value. The only original parts were the shell/dash/carpet.

LOL just for the record i've always declared any mod to any car....i like to sleep well at night and all that. However i do know a few people who have not. One person for example with a scooby pushing over 400bhp at the wheels.......Sad thing is that he has spent thousands on the car (new breaks suspension forged internals intercooler turbo etc etc) but is srfaid to declare mods as he thinks it would be an expensive premium. Mad really when you think about it...

Sounds like I'm paying over the odds then, be interesting to see what quotes I can get when it's time to renew next month

I've declared everything on my cab, the wheels, kit, leathers, hardtop, engine conversion, paintjob, etc........
and i'm paying £325.00 F/C.
I asked what they would normally cover, and got a reply only how it came out the factory.
So that is something to think about, as the cab came out with a basic spec from BMW.

Would they accept uprated brake pads as an upgrade if you can't go 4-pot etc?

EBC Redstuff even say they are for "faster cars above 200BHP ", you could email them that maybe?

Due to the insurance issues I have pretty much given up on the car and I'm looking to my next project.

It's not selling at the moment and I thought £1500 was reasonable value for a sorted 335i conversion, I've never seen one cheaper. It has a few non conversion related niggles I would resolve before it sold, if I broke the car it would save me some trouble.

I could give sky a try but I don't hold out much hope of getting what I want.

yer £1500 is a great price for that car, absolute bargain for someone...maybe the time of year is wrong and when everyone's paid off their xmas credit card bills someone may want a summer toy which they can improve etc etc...
