Right first things first hi, i have been a member for a while now but only come on previously to read threads and occasionally trawl through the for sale section.

Anyway i am currently in the process of rebuilding my touring. I'm rebuilding it with mainly track use/going down the strip in mind. But it is also going to be road legal and very presentable, shes always been my pride and joy. Anyway shes currently sat outside but should be in my workshop this weekend, ive stripped her of anything i feel i won't be needing so pretty much everything electrical in the car along with head lining, all sound proofing, carpets etc. this winter my main focus will be 'sorting' my loom, caging, fitting internal fuel tank and preparing the engine bay. so thats the car....

Now for the engine. I bought a manual e34 for a whole £200 with no MOT etc etc. it had done just over 100,000 so still a decent engine by any measure, i then stripped the e34 sold everything i could and retained the bits i will need for the conversion (thanks to the wiki on here....) so the M30 inc gearbox are currently sat on my bench. i'm not seeking crazy power yet as im on a budget and im thinking with the lightend touring and bigger lump i'll be happy for a while so just thinking lightend flywheel and racing clutch along with a chip. any opinions welcome?

I will post pictures this weekend. Thanks in advance.

Al.

Sounds simular build to me, For the clutch and fly go and get a e28 single mass fly which can be shaved too and the o/e clutch which will handle plenty. Chip is a must (ant @ fastbimmer or jason @ chipped uk) Big Bore Throttle Body is a good mod too but you have to open and match the inlet where the tb mates to it or you will have issues from cruising to wot.
If you want to shell out for it £800 for a btb 6 branch is an amzingly well desigend one and worth every penny.

Biggest problem I have found with the m30 is suspension balance. I will be going for around 500 lbs srings on the front soon in hope that they take the extra weight and distrbute it to the rear well enough. Would like to know what others are running and how there handeling too :)

As it happens ive just bought a 528 e28 but im using that as a drift bus with a few of my mates, but thats a whole different kettle of fish, anyway i managed to get my shell inside just before the snow started falling, little bit of soundproofing to take off the shell, going perspex with my glass so will be stripping that over the coming weeks too along with fuel tank and other components i'll be replacing anyway will post some pictures up. Be aware it aint pretty!!
