hi guys, i have just changed the headgasket and put the m30 back together. first start the engine idled right up to 5k rpm,the reason for this was because the intake manifold gasket was leaking,so after scraping my knuckles i tightened it and started again....now it settled the idling but it seems to just idle at 2k rpm?? i press the accelerator pedal really small amount and i mean small amount it seems to settle and climb back up,now...i really don't know the m30 engine that much so if there are any suggestions please help as i am getting quite worried about the idling problem now.. i will check the manifold nuts again in the morning, tighten the head bolts a further 30 degrees and check the valve clearence 0.30mm cold and 0.35mm hot. the engine is a hartge 3.5 m30 if that helps, other than that i am miffed!

And the butterfly in the TB is shut.
DO NOT try and tighten the head down any more if its already been torqued down correctly.
Was it idleing fine before the HG swap?

@rav,i will check the tps in the morning, one of the screws is a pain in the arse to loosen!
@t0wn325i, yes i will check the cable too...
@lee, it says in the manual to torque the headbolts another 30 degree after 20mins running,is this correct or wrong? also it was idling erratically but not 2k rpm! just kept going above 1.3k and below it,possibly because of a cam?? thanks for the input guys and i will let you know tommorow how i get on,im praying it will sort the problem

i was just thinking aswell...shouldn't the throttle body make a small internal click just before it opens and closes? i think thats the throttle pos sensor because mine isn't doing it! the last inlet did...

The throttle body click is from the plastic TPS, it should click on open and WOT too.
To adjust it, you need to hear it click on just touching the throttle, and will click on WOT too.

sorted the problem guys, that was awesome of you lot to help me so quickly, with rav only being a phonecall away it was a relief....the tps was waaaaay out, i have adjusted accordingly, also tightened the headbolts a further 30 degrees. but what a c**t to bleed the cooling system through nearly half a day of on/off bleeding to get the blinking heaters to work! i will have a picture heavy thread of the whole story in the m30 section real soon! perhaps a little help to get pics etc up?

I bleed a M30 always with the front end of the car raised with a jack. Then it's done in about 15 minutes.
