Sump gasket

Hi,

I am in the middle of replacing my sump gasket and have bought a genuine BMW cork gasket.

I note some conflicting opinions online about using sealant as well as the new gasket to get a good seal.

Any thoughts on weather to go with just the gasket or gasket + sealer?

Thanks

Correct, as a rule of thumb cork gaskets go in dry. If you must, you may use some silicon grease or standard grease lightly just to be sure the seal is absolutely tight.

In terms of silicon/loctite/sealer is not required on M20 engines.

The M40 engines, Bentley manual shows that some sealant is required with the gasket.
