I have been offered a genuine hartge h26 engine in very good condition what kind of money is this engine going for out there

they chuck out around 190BHP if they are fettled right, does it come with the correct ECU?
all that took place was a spiky cam and some porting/head work it's unlikely that it still has the correct head 20 some years later, if it has there will be Hartge markings above the intake,
as for Value thats tricky, if it doesn't have the correct head still and the ECU but in reasonable running condition then it's a £250 B2.5 donk

Car and classic had an ad for an h23 the ad is still there automec was selling it they want 700 for it i assume that is the kind of money they are making

that h23 comes with, the ECU, rocker cover, genuine hartge head/cam
If it's complete, then it has some value, I'd check it out, it's not just about the bhp, hartge make nice 'drivers' engines

std 2.5 will do, but to take advantage of the cam & porting, it could either do with the genuine unit or a clone. Steve topless will wax on this.
If the genuine head is still present, it's likely the cam is there too so worth a check. You're looking for something like this:
