cuts out when hot

hi guys im still having a weird problem with me m20 2.5l bmw 325.

basically it runs perfect when cold starts first time every time and runs sweet as a nut. the problem is as soon as it heats up and the temp guage gets anywhere near the middle the engine cuts out. ive traced this down to the spark disapearing when it heats up.

any chance it could be the temp sensor that is the problem and can i disconnect it to see if that effects it?

the distributor is quite worn so i think i will be replacing that soon but would that effect it not running when hot?

i was told of someone it must be a dodgy crank sensor, any chance the two ive got just happen to be dodgy as there used.
thanks
daniel

ok pulled out temp sensor and tried another yet still same problem, so can only be dodgy crank sensor or distributor and rotor arm?

ok ive tracked it down to the crank sensor as theres almost 0 resistance across it.

ive looked on euro car parts and there are two listed for my car. one has a resistance of 550 ohms and the other cheaper one has a resistance of 900 ohms.

whats the difference between these and does it matter which one i use?
thanks
