Morning Guys,
my e30 just hasnt got enough power and i guess easiest way is some forced induction but i have no idea about these engines etc or what i require ive allways been a vw boy.
i have done a bit of searching but info is all over place
i have a 325i sport high comp engine
i guess i would like to run around 260-300bhp
ebay turbo kits anygood?
will i need aftermarket managment?
what sort of psi can a standard engine take.
and what turbo is best suited for the job.
Cheers Simmy
m20 turbo what i need

I suggest some reading. There are plently of threads on this site and others. Also Corky Bells book Forced induction is a good read for an introduction to turbo charging engines. Turbo charging principles are common to all engines.
E-bay kits are to be steared away from I have been advised. After reading I can see why as turbo charger choice is critical. Some maths is required to select the correct turbo though.

im just starting to collect parts to boost my late/low comp B25. ill be using an ebay turbo and sourcing many of the parts off ebay allbeit staying away from super dodgy looking stuff.
i dont know if id trust a full ebay turbo conversion kit but certainly the turbo, intercooler and pipework should be fine, id be most worried about the quality of the oil feed/return and boost controller/dump valve, etc.
an ebay turbo would do the job but its not going to be the best turbo around by a long shot. it will spin, create boost and probably not just randomly implode but it may be a little more laggy than an equivalent sized name brand turbo, etc.
if you want to boost one of the high comp B25's you may need to lower compression.. i havent heard of any high comp turbo M20 builds, all seem to be based around the lower compression late M20's... whether this is for a reason or just by chance i dont know but i know id feel more comfortable boosting a later low comp engine than an earlier high comp one.

get ya self a late engine out of a facelift car as there low comp anyway ,arp head bolts good management and youll see over 300 bhp
tuning is vital to get the most out of these but again like i say to every one how deep are your pockets and how much are you willing to go and how far ?
you can plough thousands not that your prob going to
would stay away from ebay kits you wouldnt use half of it
you could quite comfortably run a bar of boost on standard internals
turbo choice again is i suppose how you want it to run personally i like them sharp and punchy not huge with loads of lag but like Eta says there are maths and flow charts to choose the right one
but then its not just that you have to think about pipe work oil feeds oil returns uprating ya brakes
etc etc etc

For mine if I ever do get round to tubro charging (with a baby on the way and a new business this is looking unlikely) I picked and bought a TD04-HL-16T from a Volvo V70 T5 I calcuate on a 2.7i with 12.7 psi of boost 327hp is theorically possible with a damm good intercooler but I would be pushing this turbo to the left of the compressor map with an efficiency of 0.69 at this stage. The TDO5-HL-16T found in Suburu's would also work well and be better for the 300 hp goal you have.
If you don't understand the above you need to read up or pay some like Gunni, A-tech to do it for you. When buying a turbo of ebay as part of a kityou have no idea what it actualy is. T3 says nothing about the comprerssor wheel or the turbine. The T3 range for example came with many different compressor wheel and turbine. Picking the right one is the difference between a turbo conversion that works and one that doesn't. I would not trust an e-bay seller who cannot even describe their product properly (no of them do they just say it is suitable for an M20 325i) to sell you the right one. If it goes bang how will you replace it? Also if it does not work it could take your engine with it.
