Scottish driving tour - 9th-11th September

I'm planning a wee run out with a few mates on the above dates as part of a weeks holiday, fart arsing about.
The general plan is start from somewhere near Edinburgh, head up the A82 (not sure on which way we get there, possibly through the Trossachs), hop on the Corran Ferry and drive along to Lochaline to catch the ferry to Mull where we'd have the first overnight stop.
The Saturday would be back across to the mainland, through the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and northward possibly via Portree on Skye time depending - some excellent driving roads along the way - with the days driving ending in Applecross. The Sunday would be the final leg, round the top road through Durness, Tongue and Dounrey to John O'Groats. I'd have to work out times to see if we'd need to have a stopover (I think we would) on the Sunday.
At the moment we're planning on camping to keep costs down, plus it's more fun and you get better banter.
We won't be going flat out everywhere but we will be driving "enthusiastically" when appropriate. We would have stop off points though to let people catch up. Similarly we aren't impressed by people driving dangerously.
You don't need a fast car for this (we have a diesel Volvo coming!) and it doesn't have to be shiney. Just as long as you're up for a bit of an adventure and a laugh.
Any interest on here?
