E30 Zone

Hi thare I'm haveing problems working out if my engine is a m10 or a m40 . It's a 3181 87 reg . This is due to my car taping all the time so I believe its the valves need adjusting is this somthing I can do at home . As i have been told it depend on the engine if i can do it my self . If some can help it would be amazing pls

A quick google search for photos of an M10 and M40 would tell you They are quite obviously different so sure you’ll figure it out quickly enough.
