January 2008 Car of the Month - Overseas

“God's mercy on you swine!â€a I shouted at the two Bolivian prison guards as the Cessna lifted off from the airfield.
They looked back at me, but said nothing. By this time I was laughing crazily and tossing lifejackets out of the side door. I was just another gringo giving them the slip.
And so now I sit in the bar of a ridiculously expensive 54ft Striker marlin fishing boat - owned by a wealthy middle-aged industrialist from Florida - in the Hemingway Marina with a large beaker of gin and cranberry juice in my hand, and nervous militia watching my every move from the jetty.
It's natural for my thoughts to wander to the various flotsam and jetsam of our membership scattered around the globe, and it's in this spirit that I've decided upon January's COTM:
Whether you have an anorak-standard M10 on steels hidden away in Kuala Lumpur or an M3 Sport Evo in a temperature and humidity controlled garage off Lake Geneva I want to see any E30 that does not live in Mainland GB.
For my fellow ex pats let's use the same rules as we use for tax !

I'v got a digital camera.....by the time I get ready for the first shot, the car would be halfway down the road, and I wouldn't be able to chase after it coz my shoes had been nicked too

Might as well have another go.........
I'm ex-Londoner now in the Charente, SW France. My touring is a 1993 316i Lux in Laguna Green Metallic. My intention was to just keep her in good condition, but since joining this forum I've done a few subtle mods. The rest of the time is just spent enjoying driving her.
Before 70/50 lowering:
After she was decked:
Before strut brace (no real engine mods apart from the K&N induction; just regularly cleaned and serviced):
Strut fitted:
Little discs all round, but I've smartened them up a little.

Pity ... I'm not going over to France until Easter, and haven't got many pics of the 327 Touring on French plates.
Anyway, I'd be well beaten by GDBN

right then time to make my big move, and in the spirit of most things Arabian i am doing it late
if its foreign you want then this is about as foreign as it gets.....German car, assembled in Japan, at some point was serviced in Hong Kong, then exported to Dubai where it was bought by an Englishman and driven via Saudi Arabia to its final and current home in sunny Bahrain.
And in Mr Clarksuns spirit i have also spent time in a foreign gaol, and for reasons E30 related as some silly woman in a ML Merc hit my cab in a car park and she decided to leave the scene, so after calling the police with her number plate provided by a witness to the crash i was told to come to the station to make a report, which i did. Unfortunately the accident happened in a car park outside the Embassy social club, and as i had been inside happily sipping PIMS and cranberry juice discussing the natives at the time, i became one of Bahrains first (slightly) drunk driver cases who actually drove themselves to the police station, and for this crime i spent a few nights in the company of Bahrains less solicitious residents, the judge did actally see the funny side and really let me off with a reasonable 800quid fine

. a lesson to all you young zoners- dont drink and drive, and dont drink and drive to the police station
anyway on to the pics which i have tried to find the most Arabian looking ones possible.....
As i found it in Dubai..
for those who remember the old zone, this picture appeared in PBMW E30zone feature alongside my Sport.....
and some of my favourites...
How to fold down the roof???? well it might as well be in Chinese
.... and for all those who think us Expats just sit around in our Khakis and Pith hats in smokey embassy social clubs conversing about the savage natives and not paying tax... think again... in Sept this year the Bahrain Government decided to tax expats 1%... bloody savages, we are not happy

I guess you'll be hightailing it back here then? If so, and you have a tow-bar, would you mind much bringing back a few thousand gallons of Optimax? Do you take Paypal?
