Well, i have been asking lots of questions so i thought i would show a few pics of my first rally car!

Its a £400 325i sport AUTO!! with 70k, don't worry, the auto box is on the list of things to change! :D

Anyway, here is the back of it :D

Image

The first problem to sort was the big hole next the the throttle pedal

Image

I cleaned it off and treated the rust then made a patch for it, i still need to weld it in though...

Image

There was also a hole in the roof where someone had fit an areal, i cleaned this up and welded a patch in, be nice its the first patch i have ever done

Image

Next we welded in the back part of the mission that is an omp cage

Image

Image

Image

And the other job my co-driver has completed is removing the sound dedaning...

Image

you don't think there is much of this untill you weigh it in a bag!

Image

Thats it for now, this weekend we are gonna weld in the front of the cage and that patch!

Top job, will be watching with interest, where will you be rallying it??

Great work fella - I had a hole in each front corner on mine - big respect on the welding front - I wouldn't know where to start

Is that a Jersey car I see? Greetings from the Isle of Man - very similar to Jersey...erm...oh yea it's an island!!

See my www for the pics of the work done on mine

Thanks guys, ed no its not a glass sunroof :D i have just cut all of the old one out.....

The original is completely rotton so i think i will rivet a piece of aluminium on instead.....

Jimmy, its a big hole for me 8O :D This is my first time doing body work and a haven't welded since i went to college 5 years ago.....its proved interesting but allot of fun!

Cheers Mike, Are you keeping your sport now??

Jay, its an OMP bolt in cage, the worst fitting cage i have ever seen, you have to do lots of fabrication to make pillers for the plates to sit on and mine was bent 8O but it was only £300 so i can't really complain!

Lloydie, Thanks and yes it is a jersey car, very similar :) except you have those lovely roads with no speed limit! I suppose we get the nice summers though :D

And finally, it will be in a special stage rally in Jersey the engine is 2.5 so that puts me in the unlimited class... i will probably be the slowest but i am just doing it for fun!

Wouldn't mind going over to see that. Seen the Hillclimb and Beach race in Guernsey but never been to Jersey.

Just got to try and get her over there without her sussing it's for motorsport winkeye

yep keeping mine now. just ordered my Z3 rack so that should be down soon. gonna order my cage soon aswell. but as you said the omp isn't a great fit its made me think if the multipoint version is going to be just as bad. cause if it is i may pay a bit extra and go safety devices and get there 18 point cage

What is it with hill climbs and Islands??!?!?

Our hill climb on the Isle of Man is on 17th 18th and 19th April and it's fantastic - 115mph max for me in a 30 mph limit, through traffic lights and past a school....roads are closed but it gives you such a buzz

BTW - Just stripped the carpet out of my latest 2 door E30 325 and the passenger foot well is rusty too and a bit on the sills so work to do..

I think we have hill climbs to make up for not having any tracks..... the hills are fun though! :D

Looks good, no matter how good you think the car is it seems that footwell carpet is like a sponge and just eats away at the footwell!

We did a little more over the weekend and the cage is now finished! :D

Here are a few pics of the front towers we built and welded in.....

Image

Door bars are also weded in which was the best bit :D

how are you going to put the nuts on the other sides of the bolts?

The cage is now a weld in cage rather than bolt in, I think.

Awesome project anyway dude 8)

I have left the other end of those boxes open so i can get my fingers in for the bolts, the bolts are only there for show really as they are never going to be as strong as the welds......

have you tried refiting the throtle peddle yet? looks pretty close might want to put some padding on it aswell cause if you crashed the would make a mess of your ankle

We are gonna paint the cage black just to give a bit of contrast....

Are you gonna enter the rally this year?

We are hoping to have the car ready enough for the easter monday hillclimb.....

We started the Manual conversion on saturday but due to a seized spiggot bearing we had to stop

Parts ordered from euro car parts so hopefully it will be finished tommorrow night!

Whilst she's on the ramp we are also fitting some spax lowering springs, omp drilled and grooved disks, mintex pads, new front wishbones, new eccentric pollybushes and a solid diff mount bush, hopefully this will tighten the car up a treat! :D

This is her on the ramp....

Nice one - looking good - what price were on the spax springs? Mine's on Bilstine springs to lower it 40mm but with the weight out it's more like lowered 25mm :(

yeah i was going to paint mine black, but know i think white will look good so cant make my mind up.

im going to try and go for it this year. but will only be able to do it if i can afford to go to the UK in august aswell as buying all the other rally specific things i will need. ive got all the wheels and tyres i need now. but things like intercoms, extinguishers, tank/sumpguards arent cheao. and then there is getting the car log booked etc. if i dont manage it i will be doing the le mans trackday instead which is most probably going to happen. you should come in yours aswell or the M3?

Well i have had a very busy weekend! The car has to be ready for easter monday as i have an entry for the local hill climb :D

I am not getting it to rally spec though, just modified production........

First i picked her up from my mate who has been doing the manual conversion, it is now manual with a z3 shifter which is lurverly! :D

This is her sitting outside the garage with a cover because it was raining and it had no sunroof!

Image

Next i drove her to my garage to test the manual box, yes, it does go sideways!!!!

My list of jobs for the weekend was, paint the cage, fit new control arms and powerflex eccentric bushes, fit the new sunroof panel, put the back window back in and remove the leaky steering rack, just pack it with grease and go manual!

Here are a few pics :D

Image

Image

Image

Image

I was thinking about filling the sunroof before i painted it because it has a few flat spots, do you think the filler would crack when the body flexes??

Image

Image

Done!

I got some R888's fitted yesterday and fook me does it corner! 8O

The combination of the tyres, bushes controll arms and roll cage make it feel like a go-cart!
