Has anyone used their E30 on the track without ABS?

Yes! 2nd trip to the ring, and it was very wet and the f*cker kept locking up on me. Ask everett he was scared as i had to go into manual abs mode on some hard braking zones. It's a horrible feeling when u think your going to skid into the armco!

I don't know were my tyres too crap? was i braking to hard? i didn't think i was but she (the trusty rusty sport) locked up 3-4 times when lapping the ring in the wet and i didn't like it!

I'd keep it if it was me

Sounds like a fun experience! Annoyingly the tech 1 turned out to be a little more rusty than expected... I doubt whether it will be weldable, bulk head, both rear inner arches, floorpan, n/s sill, both front jacking points and a hole in the rear valance and front batery tray area all need welding

So I'm thinking of getting a clean 316/318 and using that for the 3.5, but of course these don't have ABS very often!

The braking system will be upgraded too, either to 4 pot front calipers or to m3 5 stud setup all round with the bigger discs. Will this make the lack of ABS even more dodgy?

there seems to be a few 325i tourings around with f**ked heads, they seem to rust a hell of alot less than saloons for some reason?

i'd buy a tatty but ok shell theo no? and 325i at that personally. Unless you want to retro fit abs

i'm sure other heros have better opinions than me anyway!

Shame - I've just binned an ABS equipped touring, before Christmas.....

I'm not too keen on a touring really - when I came to get a cage I would have to have a custom one made up which will be pricey. They also carry a bit of extra weight, although this is over the rear end so may not be a bad thing with the heavy m30 up front?

the touring shell to me seems alot stiffer than a saloon. it's only 75kgs but with 220bhp and matching torque to start of with it wont be a slouch will it.

they certainly feel alot more planted when cornering at speed

rag the tits off mine at ace on the next meet see what u think of them if you havn't driven one

My 318 Touring has ABS as standard - it is an end of line L reg though...

We have 2 tourings race with us, one is on the min weight limit after skinning doors etc

Look mentasl on track, wish I'd built one instead :(

Cage wise, saloon cage will fit no problem, just add a few extra bars

Hmmm, a tourer slag stripped to the max would be a good laugh, but I still prefer the 2dr..... You have got me thinking though!

Tourers fu**ing rule, and it's not as if you're heavy Cheeseman!

Be a bit different too, plus as you mentioned, with a 3.5 up front, the slight bit of extra weight over the back will be better. A touring is more progressive when it comes to rear end action (if you'll excuse the expression).

ABS is for girls. Normal brakes, much better, especially since E30 ABS is completely wank.

Go one - do a tourer. Think TWR!

Do agree with Dave on the ABS issue.

So is there an 'upgrade' for the ABS then, for the girls who want ABS brakes?

Oh no - this touring temptation is growing, I could even tranport large amounts of scrap with it when not using it on track. A tow bar would be good for those ring trips as well!

I'm writing with regards to track driving, moreso than ABS for road use. Which for anyone without lots of experience of locking-up/almost locking up in many conditions is probably better than having no ABS.

Newer ABS'd cars are far, far better, much less intrusive and far more effective. I would happily use these systems, even on track.

I don't think there is an ABS system upgrade, at least without spending a few thousand squid.

I ran the E30 without ABS and with the Wilwood 4 pots and its perfectly ok without, in fact i couldn't get the fronts to lock and I was stamping on them coming into Goddards at Doni from about 115-120, amazed me how good they are. Can an E36 system be fitted, really not sure but I know that they can be remapped to BMW Motorsport parameters making them incredibly good
