Hi
Currently spripping my 325i for trackdays etc,
have removed the roof lining and want to remove as much of the sunroof as possible with a future aim of getting a carbon panel.
What of the frame can be removed?
I obviously not bother about it working.
Any pics and tips would be helpful
Thanks

What I did was removed the whole cage as it is only bonded in, but I had to use an angle grinder to cut the main parts be careful not to catch the roof though. Don't bother with the CF unless you know were to get it really cheap. Just either weld the old roof back in or use some stainless sheet. Others will to tell you to reskin the whole roof but unless your going to respray the car this seems a bit over kill.

Sometimes reskinning is actually alot easier especially if you have to pay for labour, it also saves quite alot of weight from the worst place you could possibly have it, part of the reason why some might recommend skinning it instead, if you're handy with a welder then a skin is £165, paint is also cheap if you are handy with a spraygun, either way it'll take about the same amount of time and will look 10x better and above all improve handling, all these little bits add up when building a track car

CF panel turned out cheapest when i was removing the sunroof. Rivetted sheet looks crap, weld blend and paint costs upwards of £500 dome properly (v expensive i thought), CF cost £250ish and will bond in quickly. Not as strong as a reskin but i defy anyone to notice the difference.

I've never seen one car with an infill panel that never looked like it had an infill panel, most look bloody awful and still have the excess weight above your head, if you can do it tidy for £250 then fair enough but having seen and felt the difference it made to out racer, i would always go the reskin route
