Hello All,

Me and My Dad are planning to create a track car, using a 325 or 320 and carry out a 2.7 comversion running bike throttle bodies on megasquirt.
Also we have some 325mm 4 pots calipers but nt sure wht thickness of disc it would take. is there any bmw brake disc that would fit?
I am planning to make my own cage and seam weld the chassis along with some other home made mods.

Any advice? :D

Sounds like you've got your work cut out there, but did you know there are regular airfield days up at abingdon airfield, which going by your location is right by you. A company called motor sport events do them. Safe, fast fun :D

Making your cage, hmm, not sure i'd trust myself to do one, i'm led to believe a lot of thought goes into making these, in terms of positioning and material strength. What are the calipers off, they sound like skyline gtr's by the 325mm i think they use that size.

I think the 2.7 conversion if done "quickly" and not "properly" sees about 190bhp, but a good one is pushing on 200bhp+. Have you considered an m50 conversion, more valves is always a good thing.

Looking back, i don't think i've helped you at all :o

Wow, sounds like a really interesting project there mate!

Iv also been told by very reliable sources that making a cage from scratch is a real PITA!

Cant really help you much im afraid, just wishing you good luck! Keep us posted :thumb:

Morning,

I'm not so hot on the technical jargon but I have converted a 1988 325i for track use here on the Isle of Man. I've kept to straight forward stuff, stripped it out to weigh 1020kgs, Slipper, poly bushed it, new billi's, uprated the brakes (pads and braded hoses), Zone chip, new OMP RS seats, 5 point harneses, OMP 6 point cage and two sets of tyres.

On the track it's really good fun and exactly what I bought it for, plenty of grunt all the time, RWD sideways fun and going past cars that cost many times more money than mine. I don't mind hitting cones and can give it 101%, unlike people with road cars giving it 90% and caution. It's also really reliable and in 3 hours on track I can cover 100 miles - grinning like an idiot all the way :D :D

All in the car owes me £3k plus £1k for the car. Have a look on my website for more detail. I'm sure I could get more BHP but that would be lots more £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ IMO. I have found that you can easily get carried away and forget why you bought the 'Cheap track car' in the first place winkeye .

Again not really answering your question directly but wishing you good luck in your project.

If you search for 'Taffy' he really knows his stuff and would be able to technically advise you I'm sure 8)

Cheers
Ian
