hi all. just wondering if anyone who has got a custom cage had same prob i have just had. got cage with profiled ends just to find out most bars had to be recut to fit. also only recieved 28 bars for cage after some contact with them and received some pictures we found out a lot of bars are missing for cage. now dont get me wrong it will be an ace cage when finished but it has put us back by over a week waiting for the extra bars.cant remember how much it cost in pounds but in euros it was 900. hope this does not put anyone of but just wondering if anyone els has had this prob also

Sparco and OMP sell a cage for the e30 your talking 600 for sparco and 500 for OMP,both FIA approved cages.

Im just about to place my order My reasoning was that the custom cage looked more comprehensive than the others.

Would you place the order with them again given the chance?

hi gary. sorry to say but sorry i would not. find out how many bars come with the cage. they have toud us 28. thats what we got but as i said above theirs bars missing theirs about 35 or 36 on the drawing . they emailed us pictures wit the missing bars my question was why put bars in drawing that came with cage and also send us pictures with them but not send the bars and tell us they are extra. now after all that the guy fitting the cage said its one of the best cages he has ever seen or fitted. so i dont know what to say 2 u but personaly i would not go back. sorry i dident go wit the sparco 10point it would be in now. i should have pics up by sat and u can see it. let us know how u get on with them and how many bars come with the cage. cheers rusty

It was a toss up between the custom cage and the sparco one. I was drawm towards the Custom cage one due to it comprehensive nature and the fact it went too the front legs. I think I will change my mind.

Custom cages are far superior to the sparco/omp ones, the profiled ends is a waste of money as they never fit

You can save money and time by ordering non profiles bars and profiling yourself.

Best way to by though is lengths of bar and the bent pipe work, then cut and profile yourself.

I would buy another and another and another, and all cars caged from the guy who did my cage have custom cages, thats Khumo, CTCRC, PBMW cars so alot of cages

Alot of it is down to experience I guess- he knows the best, cheapest and easiest way to order from them

Northloop i'd stick with the cage but if your fitter is up to it, not order profiled ends

Bit the bulet and placed the order with Custom Cages. This is exactly what I will be getting

by any chance did u ask them haw many bars you are getting? keep us posted how u get on. i send u a pm also

The cage I will be receiving will be identical to the drg earlier in this thread. It has been discussed, agreed and in writting.

We had similar problems a few years back and I know a few others as well, CC are renowned for having crap customer service but their cages are very very good and I would buy one again purely for that. I've also seen some of their installations and they do look very well done

Mine was despatched yesterday so should arrive in the next day or so.

Crikey, do you have to weld these things together yourself?

I bought the profiled cage so it SHOULD come with the ends ready to be welded direct to the floor. That's the theory anyway

Profiled is the so you can weld the bars to the bars without angling them not the floor ;)

Fitting is a PITA drill 4 holes in the floor to lower the hoops into, weld all the top section (you cant get to it unless you drop the cage down about a foot) then you lift and plate the floor- they supply the plates, but £45 for a right angled bit of steel thats only 3" x 3"!! Then weld the rest in after drilling the front bulk head and cutting the rear bulk head out- so yep it is INVOLVED!!!

We collected 2 the other day, bent sections and lengthes of bar, profile and make plates in the workshop

Are you saying that all the bits required to fit the cage into my car will not be supplied? This 3''x3'' piece is it not supplied and if not why the hell dont they tell you about it?

Luckily it's not a job for me, a friend is doing it, plus I work for a company with a large fabrication dept

No you get all the plates, for front down, main hoop down and rear turrets

I was just saying they charge ALOT for whats not alot on those bits if you order them individually ;)

ya not what i expected myself but its in now after 3weeks. half the bars we got were missing and also were short & profiles were wrong

Thats why my guy buys the cars, cuts and profiles them himself, cheaper to buy the cage that way but fitting is more dollar as a result

I spoke to him this morning and he is jumping round like an excited idiot and can't wait to get started.........He thinks its brilliant that he has to cut holes in my floor to drop the cage when its in the car, so he can weld over the roof hoop

Luckily it's around 80 miles away so I cant go round every day to watch progress, he might want to throttle me tomorrow

Hi are bolt in cages anygood?

Personally I would still weld a bolt in cage.......just my opinion though

Bolt in cages are fine if homogolated, I felt dafer with the full weld in so thats what I went for

Dont be missled- both require welding

just back on to the harnesses can i use the old rear seat belt bolt on points will it be ok?

I have a custom cage in mine as well , but I bought the shell with it already fitted

You don't actually have any choice. If you didn't weld a bolt in cage how else would it be attached to the car?

Bolt in only refers to the cage hoops bolting to each other and to the floor mounts. You still have to do a lot of welding mounting plates to the shell.
