Ԛ£ for Ԛ£ its got to be a engine swap.
Making sure the engine is working as it should and is serviced is BHP for little Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£'s to and saves Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£'s down the line.
Then start thinking about an GOOD filter not this K&N cone rubbish, upratd cam or chip although don't know how easy they are to come by for m10.
Honestly withought spending big bucks on turbo or supercharger there isn't much BHP you can squeeze out.
Sell up and buy a 325i !

Better off looking for a 325i for a quick solution, howerver you could do a scrappy special turbo and make your own manifolds. a small turbo from something like a 200SX (T25 would be ideal, not big boost and low lag = driveable car with decent torque) would be close to whats needed.
Bigger injectors from something turbo'ed or big engine (Cossie green? / stock injectors are dirt cheap and should be more than enough), one home made exhaust and an intercooler from a Volvo and a bit of logical thinking could see some decent power figures, the M10 was turbo'ed to silly figures in F1 years ago
Talk to Ant on the forum, he's been doing a few turbocharged projects and is the man to talk to
