E30 Zone

OK, I currently have -60mm drop springs, and I have adjustable avo shocks at rear (avo aren't my choice) which are 75% set to hard.

front shocks are standard M-Tech shocks, but I still get too much bounce/ roll on track for my liking

can anyone suggest which shocks to replace them with please?

The Bilstein shocks that came with my Alpina B3 were very good. Before getting serious with track days I had them reconditioned and the valving changed to something suited for track. Together with the H&R springs the car was one of the best handling E30s at the track.

Agreed - it's all about the depth of your wallet.

H&R, KW, GAZ, LEDA coilovers are probably what you want to be looking at if you want the best.

You could have a medium priced suspension kit from H&R or KW aswell.

so KW are quite good then? looking at spending a couple of hundred quid for shocks alone

Get proper race suspension. Not street/sport suspension. Cheapest you can go is about 700 pounds.

In my mind you want one thing or the other. You either want the best in which case at a guess its H&R, KW or maybe Billies or you want to compromise with anyone of a number of others. The question is will you get 3 months down the road, wish you'd have bought the best and suffer from the ''buy cheap buy twice syndrom''

either way you look at it, i cannot afford Ԛ£700 for a set of 4 shock absorbers, so I'm not going to regret it.

i'm sorting myself out with some bilstein yellows, which i'll be very happy with in conjuction with uprated antiroll bars

had mine on the race weigh bridge @ Mallory Park, currently sits at 998kg with about Ԛ£5 fuel in (which i'm happy about)

Mine is coming along slowly.........Its half stripped at the moment, only the drivers seat in it, carpets tar and all the other non essential stuff gone. Still plenty to do and then start considering mods over the winter.

700 is for an entire set, dampers,springs and top-mounts. For such soft springs Yellow Koni's is the best bet.

Get a set of Eibach springs, 40mm drop and a set of Koni adjustables. Set the front pretty soft, the rear quite hard and you will be very, very quick in the twisties and have a very prdictable and forgiving car. Several years ago I had an E30 M3 (195hp) with this set up in 15" rims and it was the quickest E30 on the track, including a few GrpN khumo tyre race M3's at the time (Evelene was one) at Castle Combe. (although they would catch me on the straight, just.)

You could get the car soo sideways and always know it was going to come out the corner the right way. It was as good on the road too.

I have also driven alot of cars which have been superb on the road, but have been crap on the track for handling. My old M3 was good on the road too, but hit a fairly meaty bump or man hole and the front would bottom out on the suspension, leaving you cringing.

This is just my experiance, but it depends on how YOU drive your car to which set up is best.

well i already have a set of -60mm springs, but with having absolutely no weight in the car, it doesn't lower it that much (obviously)

I would recommend from experience Bilstein but the lowered strut to allow use of your spring (depnds on make of your spring as might be worth replacing with Eibach etc)...bought my Bilsteins at very good price through BMW Carclub contact..and they are great
