Removing sunroofs

Thought it probably best to put my questions in this part of the forum as I'm guessing the guys on here will know the most in regards to removing a sunroof and blanking it off.

In the midst of my coupe project which has a sunroof that I want to remove and I was hoping for some advice on what root to take, do I

1.
Remove the sunroof panel from its cartridge and bond/weld it in ?

2.
Does any one know where I can get a plastic/fiberglass panel replacement ?

3.
Weld in a simple blank panel (but will this distort the roof)

What have people found works best for the cheapest amount of money ?

Thanks
Dan

I got my sunroof welded back in, just cut out the rest of the crap around it.

A local chap and rally hero used to make, and possibly still does, blanking plates made on a form that he tack welds in. Cost me £100 fitted (in primer).

Remember, if you want to compete in events (hill climbs, sprints etc) then it needs to be made of the same material as the roof so you can't use fibreglass

All I was concerned about was distortion from the heat but ideally I'd like it welded up

Do you have a contact number for the guy please ?

Spot weld it every inch or and it will be fine. It was then sealed with some kind of mastic type product before being sprayed. I have sent the guy an email, not sure if he still makes them as I know he was having a few personal problems. I'll let you know

You don't have to weld all the way around the roof that's totally OTT. Mine is held in with a total of 10 tack welds, 3 on the front and back and 2 on each side and it is solid. Just needs sealing up with a good quality silicone sealer.

I used this guide: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=135991

Then I stripped out all the strengthening parts inside the sunroof skin and tiger sealed the sunroof skin in. Bodge-tastic but it works!
