My Dad and I are making the yearly trip to the ring soon and what with servicing, rear brakes and the usual ferry, fuel, hotels, beer and laps to pay for I am wondering if there is any thing as good for less cash?


Does any one know where 16" second hand slicks can be obtained from? (this would also work as its going on the back of my truck).

Btw the car is track day only.

You can't use full slicks on a Touristenfahrten day at the 'Ring, so unless you're doing a trackday there you need to re-think.

Also, in my experience at least, used slicks don't offer a great benefit over R compound tyres although they are more resistant to overheating. New slicks are more costly than R888/AO48's too...

Have you run both r888's and AO48's? How do they compare both performance and price wise?

16s are the trouble size. Always expensive it seems as less popular.

I would look at the kunho v700 or Michelin pilot cup sport.

Marangoni are doing a new R compound tyre too.

You could try eBay as quite good for getting used tyres.

Am sure Silverstone tyres do a good R rated tyre called FTZ.

The federal RSR is like a 888 and better in wet than a pilot cup sport. Good value too.

The other places I look for tyres is pistonheads and racecarsdirect.com

Hoosier also make a "semi" slick tyre that is DOT rated and readily available in 16's. Look at their A6 and R6 ranges.

Look for a guy called "slickersales" on ebay, he gets all sorts of part worn racing slicks.
My R888s are pretty much dead so am going to try set of slicks off him, at £200 for the 4 they're a darn sight cheaper than Toyos!
